Lower Fishpools B&B Cottage is situated 1 mile from the village of Bleddfa whose old village school is now the Bleddfa Centre for the Creative spirit. The purpose of the centre is to ‘encourage the awakening of the inner creative spirit in individuals, organisations and society’ and offers a full programme of events of seminars, workshops and regular meetings. The Centre also has a small art gallery.
Bleddfa is also the home to the Church of St Mary Magdalene, a church that possibly dates from the early part of the thirteenth century and which over the years has had several renovations. It is the venue for musical concerts and community events.
The Hundred House Inn is the village pub and is run by motor racing enthusiasts. They offer a full range of bar snacks and meals.
Dolau- 2 miles
Dolau has an award winning station for the scenic Heart of Wales line which travels from Shrewsbury to Swansea.
Underhill riding stables offer a great way to explore the local area. This family run business offer hourly hacks, half, whole day and pub rides.
Llangunllo- 5 miles
Llangunllo is a small picturesque village with the long distance Glyndwys way footpath passing through. Activities in this area include the Phil price rally school where you can book for a day’s rallying fun and Classic Clays which offers clay pigeon shooting for individuals and corporate days.
Knighton- 7 miles
This is a typical borders market town that offers a range of shops and is host to a regular farmers market. It has plenty of pubs that offer food. This town is where the main Offas dyke centre is situated.
The Space guard centre is a working astronomical observatory which offers conducted tours.
Presteigne- 10 miles
This arty town has a range of tea rooms and gift shops along with an impressive church which houses a 500 year old tapestry. Presteigne hosts the popular Sheep music festival, the annual ‘Tour de Presteigne’ electric bike rally and many more alternative events.
The Judges lodgings and court room is an award winning museum in the centre of the town and is well worth a visit.
Nearby is the Border go-karting circuit for has a great track.
Llandrindod Wells- 10 miles
Llandrindod Wells is the county town of Powys. It is a Victorian spa town, celebrated by the annual week long Victorian festival in August. Places of interest include the Rock Park, the lake with its grand sculpture and tea rooms and the National bicycle museum- which is a lot more interesting than it sounds! There is an established golf course on the edge of the town.
Builth Wells- 16 miles
Builth Wells is host to the Royal Welsh showground at Llanelwedd which has the Royal Welsh Show in July, the smallholder and garden festival in May and the Winter fair in December.
It has the popular Wyeside arts, entertainment and film centre, housing a cinema and a full programme of events.
Rhayader and Elan Valley-17 miles
Rhayader is a busy market town that has the Welsh Crystal glass factory and the red kite feeding centre to visit. A visit to the beautiful Elan valley dams where villages were flooded to make reservoirs in order to pipe drinking water to Birmingham is a must for visitors to the area.
